The Horned Frogs first took notice of Skoug as a sophomore and followed him this past fall of 2012 at the Perfect Game Underclass tournament in Ft. Myers, Florida. While playing for Team DeMarini 17U - Koutnik, Skoug had an outstanding junior season as he led Libertyville to 2nd place in the Illinois State Championship (Class 4A) and was named to all-conference, All-Area and All-State teams.
He has continued to enjoy success since committing to TCU. He has helped Team DeMarini 17U - Koutnik to success in several tournaments, was named an alternate to the USA Baseball 18U National Team in June, and was selected to play for the Cubs in the 2013 East Coast Pro Games in Syracuse in early August.
Skoug says, "I feel very fortunate to have received an offer from a Big 12 team like TCU. I am excited about the opporutnity to play baseball under Coach Schlossnagle. It is the realization of my dream to play at a higher level. I've worked really hard for this, but I have had tremendous experiences and role models along the way, including Coach Koutnik and my team DeMarini Teammates."
