Halas, who is currently ranked in the (class of 2015) top 100 and #1 in the state of Illinois by Perfect Game USA is also a member of the 2011 USA Baseball National Team and the 2012 USA Baseball 40 Man Trials Roster. Halas has visited Tennessee a number of times and has been on their recruiting board since 8th grade under the old coaching staff. That interest continued when Halas made an unofficial visit this past September to meet with head coach Dave Serrano and assistant Bill Mosiello. It was during that meeting that Halas finalized his decision to commit to the SEC school.
“Tennessee has been at the top my list since my first visit in 8th grade. With each visit I have made, the University and its premier baseball program, as well as the city of Knoxville have continued to grow on me. You couldn't ask for a more exciting and capable group of baseball individuals to be around than coaches Dave Serrano, Bill Mosiello and Greg Bergeron. You also have a head coach that has represented his country for USA Baseball and assistant coach that managed in the minor leagues. You’re going to be challenged everyday with the talent and competition in the SEC.”
Halas was at the University Of Tennessee this past fall for a prospect camp, but it was his play this past weekend at the Perfect Game World Championships in Jupiter, Florida that confirmed to assistant coach Bill Mosiello that Halas was an SEC guy and good fit for the Tennessee baseball team.
Team DeMarini coach Koutnik added “We know Tyler can pitch and play multiple position in the field, but his display at the plate and ability to hit is as good as it gets. Halas faced pitchers throwing 92-97 in Jupiter, and he showed the ability to drive baseballs with ease. In addition to his hitting, he also displayed advanced base running instincts that makes him a 5 tool guy. I was really impressed with him going from 1st to 3rd on a ball hit to center field, and it also drew the attention of the college and pro scouts on hand.”
This is an exciting time for Tyler and his family and Team DeMarini would like to congratulate them on Tyler’s commitment. We look forward to this falls workouts and next season.
